About

I have always enjoyed food.  Not so much cooking food but just eating it.  Since I was 12 years old I have been an insulin dependant diabetic and was always able to keep my weight in order by being an active kid.

After high school I backpacked across New Zealand and Australia and was in the best shape of my life.  I was 180 pounds…  I have not seen that weight since.  That was 14years ago.  I began working in an office environment and slowly my career began to take the place of my active lifestyle.  I was a great beach volleyball player and an avid Junior hockey referee.  Now I lose my breath tieing my shoes (actually I wear slip on shoes now to avoid the hastle).  No more volleyball, no more skating.

I have been in the same career for 13 years now.  A professional.  I eat many fast food meals in the car on the way to and from appointments.  Exercise used to mean walking to the fax machine but with email now even that has gone to the shredder.  At the end of a stressful day it’s all I can do to put my feet up and have a cold beer.  Weekends are strictly for “relaxing”.

It is my goal to use this blog to change all of that.  I will bring back the activity in my life.  I will follow a meal plan that is healthy and works to improve my weight (South Beach Diet).  I will reduce my need for insulin injections.  I will get healthy.  I will get through the difficult times by focusing on this goal.  My “before” photo is too many years ago and the after picture is just sad to look at. (just look at my first blog entry if you want to see a photo of just how awful I look).  Time to change all that…

PS. The photo in my top bar was many years ago – that is the photo I strive to make my after photo again!
